From the Manufacturer
Audiophiles everywhere, meet your next object of desire. As the most powerful stereo integrated amplifier to ever carry the harman kardon® name, the HK 990 captures listeners' attention - and how could it not with its expectation-defying 150 watts of power per channel. And even though the HK 990 may amaze some with its musical prowess, make no mistake, its power is highly refined - and can handle the most demanding loudspeaker loads with the greatest of ease. To complement this muscularity, the HK 990 also boasts an impressive list of advanced performance features, such as fourth-generation Real-Time Linear Smoothing (RLS IV), EzSet/EQ II for room optimization, dual subwoofer outputs and a high-current, ultrawide bandwidth design for clear sound and more precise imaging. And that's only the beginning. In its quest to overachieve, the powerful HK 990 also takes strides in the area of versatility - offering six analog stereo audio inputs and four digital inputs to ensure optimal compatibility with various signals. Ultimately, the HK 990 offers you a superb blend of irresistible features designed to win over the affections of the most discerning of audiophiles. For more than 50 years, Harman Kardon products have been delivering great sound and extraordinary design. Designed to Entertain. With a complete package of performance, design, flexibility and ease of use, harman kardon products are perfect for all the sounds and visuals that modern, high-definition digital content has to offer. So treat yourself to the ultimate at-home listening experience - one that only a harman kardon system can provide. Highlights The HK 990's high-current amplifier delivers heightened realism to whatever you may be listening to. Click here to View Larger High-current, ultrawide bandwidth design for uncompromised realism. The 150-watt HK 990 stereo integrated amplifier outputs a cleaner, louder and more powerful sound than most amplifiers from other companies. The reason is simple. By utilizing something called high-current capability (HCC), which provides the instantaneous current necessary to precisely drive and control nearly any loudspeaker system, the HK 990 can accommodate more headroom during dynamic program peaks, influencing tighter bass and a superb transient response - at any volume level. The benefit? Heightened realism for whatever music, movies and multimedia you might be listening to. Real-Time Linear Smoothing ensures the highest quality digital to analog conversion. Optimize performance with Real-Time Linear Smoothing (RLS IV). Designed to push the performance quotient even further beyond typical harman kardon® standards, Real-Time Linear Smoothing (RLS IV) is a feature that minimizes interference in digital-to-analog signals with two high-grade stereo analog devices (AD) 1955 DACs. The result? Richly detailed sound and noise level that remains in a non-audible frequency range with very high jitter rejection. This way, you'll always experience sonic refinement and a natural open sound stage - two benefits that should appeal to the most demanding of audiophiles. EzSet/EQII simplifies setup and calibrates your system for your specific room. Click here to View Larger EzSet/EQ II takes control of your settings - automatically. Sit back, relax and let the HK 990 set the room's mood automatically thanks to EzSet/EQ II's room-equalization and system-calibration technology. Simplify system setup with the touch of a button while ensuring the most optimal listening environment possible, in just minutes. EzSet/EQ II even sets speaker volume, speaker balance and timing as well for your system's 2.2-channel surround-sound speakers. By automatically adjusting sound to suit your specific room conditions - including directing sound toward listeners in the ideal, seated position - EzSet/EQ II consistently proves that it knows how to read the room. The HK 990's HRS link ensures the most audiophile connection to the HD 990 CD player. Get in sync with an HRS link As one of the features that make the HK 990 a top-of-the-line audio system, high-resolution synchronization link (HRS link) lets harman kardon® CD players lock themselves to the external clock of the amplifier to ensure a jitter-free connection. Similar to having the CD playback inside the amplifier, the HRS link carries both the system and data Clocks of the amplifier, and the data stream from the CD player. As a cutting-edge feature that's fairly standard in high-end professional audio equipment, the HK 990's HRS link is designed to appease even the most discerning audiophiles. When used, balanced connections provide the highest signal-to-noise ratio for the best sound possible. Click here to View Larger Minimize signal disruption wherever possible. When you're listening to audio, you want to have as little signal disruption as possible. With the HK 990's XLR inputs, you get balanced connections designed to reject both external noise (from power wiring, etc.) as well as internal crosstalk from adjacent signal cables. In addition to discriminating against noise and crosstalk, your XLR inputs also allow 6 dB more signal level on the line - so ultimately you'll get a higher signal-to-noise performance than before. Bravo. With a number of digital and analog connections, the HK 990 can connect to nearly anything. Get your groove back. Those who declare vinyl dead clearly haven't heard what their records sound like using the harman kardon® HK 990. With two high-quality phono inputs included for connection of record players using an MM or MC cartridge, the HK 990 breathes renewed life into your collection, allowing you to hear your classic albums at the appropriate level of audio quality. A virtually future-proof system. When you invest in a new amplifier, you want a system that stays compatible for years to come - no matter what technological advances come along. To grant you this flexibility, the HK 990 features connections for six analog audio devices and two analog recording devices. And with a total of four digital inputs and one coaxial digital output, which allow the stereo amplifier to handle all the latest digital audio sources, there's one thing the HK 990 won't be short on: longevity. Great things (such as subwoofer outputs) come in pairs. When it comes to a vastly capable stereo receiver such as the HK 990, you want to elicit optimal bass quality wherever you can. That's why the HK 990 has dual subwoofer outputs - so that when two subwoofers are installed, the amplifier is able to create a smoother low-frequency reproduction with more powerful bass. And as a safeguard, the accompanying EzSet/EQ technology will always read room conditions to deliver the most favorable bass response possible - regardless of which subwoofer placement option is chosen. High quality binding posts means you can optimize your system with the best wire possible. Build strong connections with heavy-duty binding posts. When it comes to installing your powerful HK 990 stereo integrated amplifier, quality and flexibility are of the utmost importance. That's why, with heavy-duty binding posts, your HK 990 receiver can be used with a wide variety of speaker wires. And by accepting bare wire up to 10 mm2, banana plugs or spades, the heavy-duty binding posts on the rear panel of the amplifier secure the best possible connection between the output and the speaker wire. A built-in protection plan. When you have a powerful amplifier, the need for proper heat management is essential. In addition to the regular heat management system, the harman kardon® HK 990 features a thermal tracking mechanism called ThermalTrak - which includes internal temperature sensors that bias the current of the output stage in real time. Additionally, two ultra-low noise fans have been integrated directly into the massive heat sinks to assure the amplifier will always perform under the best possible temperature conditions. How about that - a system that can take care of itself. Choose the right path - digital or analog. Some like it analog, and some do digital. The harman kardon® brand serves both. By having dual-path technology, the HK 990 allows customers to decide for themselves whether to run a pure analog input directly into the amplifier stages, or to use digital inputs that are lead through the DSP for processing. Once again, if you're going to invest in bold new technology, you want as much flexibility as possible. The HK 990 affords you that luxury. One remote control - for everything. Designed to help your HK 990 function with ease, the system remote control is capable of controlling all compatible harman kardon® CD players and tuners - all from one adept system. It can also enable remote A/B speaker switching. There are even IR remote extension jacks, so you can control the amplifier even if it's buried in a cabinet. But then again, why would you want to hide something that looks as good as the HK 990 in a cabinet? |
