The Deskstar 7K1000.D is Hitachi’s first one-disk, 1TB, 7200 RPM 3.5-inch hard drive for use in power-friendly consumer and commercial desktop computers. This fourth-generation 1TB hard drive from Hitachi uses Advanced Format, which increases the sector size on HDDs from 512 bytes to 4096 (4K) bytes, thereby increasing capacities and improving error correcting capabilities. Replaced a Western Digital Black Caviar with the Hitachi Deskstar. Always liked WD but having to send back two new drives twice in less than 2-years made me think there was a bad batch out there. Don't know if the SATA III v. the SATA II has to do with speed, but the Hitachi is much faster than the WD. Both had the same specs except for the SATA II and SATA III. Had a backup clone I put on the Hitachi, so it should have run at the same speed as the WD but was faster. Very Happy with the Hitachi and will get another one for my other computer.
