Amazon.com Product Description
The Energizer Inductive Charger allows for easy charging of up to three devices simultaneously, with two zones for inductive charging and one USB port. The Energizer Inductive Charger will charge any mobile device that has embedded Qi (pronounced "chee") technology, regardless of the manufacturer, or any mobile device that is Qi-enabled with the help of an Energizer Inductive Charging sleeve. | Cordlessly Charge Three Devices At Once | The Energizer Inductive Charger conveniently charges up to three of your devices at one time. Two inductive Qi charging zones are located on the top surface of the pad for simple, easy charging. For both Qi and non-Qi devices, the USB port on the back is ideal for charging additional phones, headsets, mp3 players, cameras, GPS devices, and any other device up to 5 watts.
| | Qi: The New Universal Standard for Inductive Charging | Qi is the new universal standard for wireless charging, as defined by the WPC (Wireless Power Consortium) which is comprised of many of the major electronics and mobile phone companies. Qi technology allows your mobile device to be charged through induction, without having to actually be plugged into anything.
When fitted with the right Qi-enabled sleeve or door,* the Energizer Inductive Charger charges both the AT&T and Verizon version of the iPhone 4, the iPhone 3GS/3G, and the BlackBerry Curve 8900.
* All Energizer Qi sleeve and door accessories are sold separately.
| | Qi Inductive Charging is the Future | While Qi Inductive charging currently relies on the use of sleeves and pads to charge devices, more and more Qi-enabled devices are already on the horizon. Many new products are being designed with Qi technology actually built into the device. Because all Qi-enabled products work with each other regardless of manufacturer, the Energizer Inductive Charger offers an excellent charging solution for now and for the future.

| | Why Qi Inductive Is Better Than Non-Qi Inductive Charging | Qi inductive charging is better than non-Qi inductive charging mainly because it is an agreed-upon standard. Over 80 companies in the WPC (Wireless Power Consortium) are involved with every aspect of making Qi a success. Beyond the big-name device makers, a host of electronics-component companies are designing the coils, chips, controllers, and other parts that will make Qi a standard part of charging 5-watt devices.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
Energizer Inductive Charger (and Energizer iPhone Sleeve) - The inductive charging concept is magically convenient - simply place your device that needs charging on the charging tray. No wires, no plugs, just place it on the tray and it charges about as fast as if you had plugged it in to a traditional charger. That's the good news. Unfortunately, the negatives currently outweigh the pluses. A consortium of electronics manufacturers established a standard for inductive charging (called Qi and pronounced `Chee') so that in the future, devices can be designed with this technology built in. So far, we're in the early days and that hasn't yet happened. Energizer here in the USA has made the charger tray but since no devices have the Qi technology built in, they are selling specially built sleeves for iPhones, Blackberrys, etc. These sleeves add weight and are cumbersome to take on and off when you want to sync your device. Frankly, it's less work to simply plug your device in than to install the sleeve and then place it on the charger tray. Here are the problems with this system as it stands today: * The charger is expensive (approx. $67.00 at Amazon) and the sleeve to fit your smart phone adds another $30.00 or so to the total cost. * The iPhone sleeve covers the port on the bottom of the phone so in order to sync it, the sleeve must be removed each time. * The iPhone 4 weighs 138g and the sleeve weighs 46g for a 30+% weight increase. * The charger is wide (8 inches) so that two devices can be charged at once. It occupies a lot of desk space. A single size unit would be a welcome addition. Not everyone needs to charge two devices at once. * The printing on the charger and sleeve is big and bold. It would look much better if this was toned way down and made more discreet. A small point, but one of the many reasons people like their Apple devices is because they are `toned down and discreet'. Bottom line - the inductive charging concept is great, but because it hasn't been widely adopted yet by the device manufacturers, this charger isn't quite ready for prime time.
