The LifeStudio external drive also keeps your digital content safe with automatic local and cloud backup. With two levels of reliable protection to help keep your digital content safe, you can even access your files from any computer or smartphone using an internet browser, or share with others by sending a web link. iPad and iPhone apps are also available for an additional cost (sold separately).

The included detachable USB key lets you automatically sync up to 4GB worth of select folders for when you only need to transport a few important files. The USB key attaches conveniently to the hard drive dock when not in use.

My mistake! I bought this item thinking that I could simply use it for background backups of my data! It was on the shelf with other external drives and I mistakenly assumed that it would operate as one. I also assumed that Hitachi, being a well known company, would provide reasonable support! Like I said, my mistake...I won't make that one again.
